The Australian Army
Australia was born as a federal nation in 1901 and the army was commissioned soon after, due to national pride the new army was eager to show what it was made of and that opportunity presented itself in the first world war, morale was extremely high and Australia sent its very best young men to battle, later these brave men were known as the ANZACs (Australia New Zealand Army Corps).
ANZACs
The ANZACs did extremely well in the war and their commanders were impressed by the young mens ability to endure the stress and horror of war, their most famous campaign was Gallipoli (a shore in Turkey). Australia and New Zealand lost that battle but it also helped show the bravery of the Australian soldier, today the ANZACs are the most honorable in all of Australia's history.
Important Note about the ANZACs
It's strange that most countries choose to celebrate a moment of glory or victory in their lives yet Australia chose the ANZAC heritage to celebrate, I think it's because Australia cares more about those brave men who did their best under incredible circumstances despite knowing well that they may never return home.
