There are heaps of different churches and Christian groups around Sydney. There are "New Born Church", "salvation Army", "Church of England", "Coptic Church" and much more.

Coptic Church

The Coptic Church in Australia was established when a few Copts diligently searched for a permanent home for their Church in Sydney. An old Methodist Church was offered for sale and the Church Council under the leadership of Fr. Mina Nematalla purchased the double storey Church building at 24 A Railway Road, Sydenham NSW.

First Coptic Church in Australia

The Church was given the name of St. Mary and St. Mina's Coptic Orthodox Church. It was to be the first Coptic Church in Australia and the first owned by Coptic migrants outside of Egypt . The first liturgy celebrated in the newly purchased church was on the 29 March, 1970.

Coptic congregation in Sydney

Through the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the guidance of His Holiness Pope Shenouda III, the Coptic congregation in Sydney has grown to approximately 50,000 people as at June 2003. Together with the exponential growth in the number of Copts in Sydney has been the increase in the number of Coptic churches, schools, colleges, monasteries and elderly centres.

There are Coptic churches all over Australia, NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, WA and Australian Capital Territory. His grace Bishop Daniel is the bishop for Sydney , Queens land, Northern Territory, Japan, Singapore and Thailand. His grace Bishop Suriel is the bishop for Melbourne, west and South Australia, New Zealand and all Oceania.

Coptic institutions in Sydney

There are 20 churches, 3 Coptic schools and one monastery in Sydney. Coptic churches is Sydney is usually two buildings one church for the prayer in Arabic for the old people and people who has not been in Australia for long and another church for the prayer in English for youth and children who were born in Australia.

COYA

COYA is Coptic Orthodox Youth Association and they look after the Coptic youth, they have lots of activities and entertainment throughout the year. It started about 2 or 3 years ago and it's very successful.
