History of movie making in Australia
Movies have been made in Australia since 1900, the first movie was about a famous Aussie outlaw called Ned Kelly, and from that day till now, things have never been the same again.
Australia has produced some of the finest movies and actors in the history of cinema, though most of them get lured in by the glamour of Hollywood, actors like: Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman (X-Men), Russell Crowe (The Gladiator), Cate Blanchett (Lord of the rings), Mel Gibson and Sam Neill (Jurassic Park) are all proud Australians or New Zealanders who lived in Australia.
Australian movies
Some of the locally made movies have catapulted these stars into Hollywood actually, it's well known that the "Mad Max" movies were the stepping stone for the young Mel Gibson into the international stage
Today due to the beautiful landscapes of Australia, and its cheap expenses and stability, most Hollywood movies are being filmed on it, in fact Fox Studios and Warner Brothers both have huge complexes for filming in Australia, it has become the norm to meet the worlds most famous stars in Australia. Examples of some of the biggest blockbusters shot here are "The Matrix", "Star Wars" and "Spiderman" even top animations and motion picture tricks are expected to give Australia a larger piece of the pie in the very near future, with classics like "The Lion King" and "The Little Mermaid" on its resume
The Australian government helps the local industry in order to produce 100% Aussie movies, some people feel that this is unnessary however I disagree as I think Hollywood has too much tools and money at its disposal for the Australian industry to take it on.
Movie premieres in Aussie
Movies are usually shown here at the same time they premiere in the US and the rest of the world, the biggest cinema chains are "Hoyts" and "Greater Union" and in certain areas they show popular movies to the local neighborhood, I've seen some Egyptian movies here just a couple of month after they were first launched in Egypt like Tito and 3okal, there's also Indian, Iranian, Greek, Italian and Serbian movies.
So if you're planning on coming, you'll find a lot of cinema entertainment in the land downunder!
