Types of clubs in Australia

There's a lot of different types of clubs; fitness clubs, local clubs, hobby clubs, but I guess you're here to read about night clubs lol

Fitness clubs

Let me talk first about other types of clubs but if you're in too much of a hurry I suggest you scroll down to the bottom of this page: Fitness is very important in Australia, most people like to stay in shape and go to lots of gyms and workout several times a week, the biggest chain is fitness first, followed by dimensions and Gold's Gym, all have the best fitness equipment and some of the larger branches have swimming pools too.

RSL's

Local clubs are known as RSL's here (The Returned and Service League's) those were originally built after the World War to entertain the Australian soldiers coming back from abroad and to give them a special "Thank You", later on membership for families and neighbors were allowed and soon every neighborhood had its own RSL club, RSL's are very family oriented, with live shows most of the nights that suit families, there is also a large section for gambling, food courts and areas for outdoor games such as lawn balls, cricket etc, at 6pm each evening the entire RSL becomes very quiet, everyone stands for a minute in remembrance of all those who died to protect this country, the RSL's slogan is "Lest we forget".

Hobby clubs

Whatever your hobby is, you will find a club for it in Australia, there are all sorts of clubs like these everywhere and you can find almost anything in the yellow pages (the local directory) whether it be stamp collecting or driving antique cars!

Clubs

Night clubs are mostly called just "clubs" and they are very close to pubs, they serve drinks and fairly good quality food there, clubs are mostly quiet during the weekdays but they are massive people attractions on Friday and Saturday nights, the Australians love to dance and have fun after a long hard week's work, entry is not allowed for anyone under age (under 18 years old), smoking has been banned a few weeks ago so all smokers have to go out if they want to have a smoke. In general people's attitude is very laid back and friendly as everyone is just there to have a bit of fun.

The best clubs are found in the city (or CBD) which is usually closest to the waterfront, and most of them are affordable, the higher classed ones are on high levels of the city's skyscrapers.

Oh by the way, when someone says they're going "clubbing" it means they're going to a club .. or a few!!
