Hi,
I found your site and am wondering whether you could give me a bit of advice. I am trying to migrate to Australia, I have more than 10 years work experience in construction related sales management and marketing in the UK, I have an HND in Sales management & Marketing which is recognised and acredited in the UK at ASET Level 4, I have family in Australia who are prepared to sponsor my application, but Vetassess tell me they cannot equate my diploma to any related Australian qualification and they do not take experience into account, therefore I cannot get a succesfull skills assesment. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Gary

Hi Gary,
I think the closest job to your current field would be Marketing Specialist 2221-13 the job de_script_ion reads: "Identifies market opportunities and advises on the development, coordination and implementation of plans for the pricing and promotion of an organisation’s products or services"

You're quite right Vetassess should be your body of assessment, most bodies have RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) in place, however their website doesn't state clearly if they support thr RPL system or not, I'll contact them tommorow morning and keep you posted.

In case they come back with negative, can you please let me know if you've explored other options such as coming on a student visa or a family visa? and is there any chance that your relatives can secure you an Australian job offer?

Cheers
Moheb

Hi Moheb,
Many thanks for the swift reply. I have not explored the other options you mentioned,(student Visa)I am not sure of the criteria for this. I am 42 years old and married with two children. If i applied for a student visa, would they not say I am too old? and even if I got one, would my family be able to accompany me. The family I have in Adelaide are prepared to sponsor my application, but I am not sure how they would secure a job offer for me, I will write and ask them if there is any possibility of this. I have posted my CV online with various employment agencies in Australia, but have not had any luck with that so far.The previous assesment I applied for through vetasses was in the field of Project or program administrator 3292-11 on the advice of an agent in the UK.

Kind Regards
Gary

Hi Gary
Ok let's focus firstly on the Vetasses job I suggested (let me know if you feel comfortable with it or not) and also ask your relatives if they can find you job offer here.

I would suggest against posting your resume online .. the thing is, most Australian employers (and I can't blame them really) prefer to be able to meet the person they're interested in personally, its not just about the experience or education you know, it's also about chemistry, about ability to speak and understand proper English etc .. plus of course a person whose still overseas gives the impression that he will still need to settle down and find a home and furniture etc = can't start job immediately.

If you can afford it, and you apply to Vetassess for the job I suggested and you're successful, I propose you come over for a visit and get a "feel" for what the market and life in Australia is like, perhaps do a couple of interviews too
