Size of Australia's gay & lesbian community

According to the latest polls, Sydney has the second largest gay and lesbian community in Australia after San Francisco in the United States.

In fact there are certain suburbs in Sydney known to have the gay and lesbian bars and most tourist booklets about the city have a chapter on the gay and lesbian scene. 

Gay & lesbian pride in Australia

Each year the gay and lesbian community of Sydney holds a huge parade called the "Mardi Gras" parade that walks through Sydney's largest streets; this parade is considered so important that it's a public holiday.

Australians attitude towards gay & lesbian lifestyles

 In general Australians accept gay lifestyles, that is evident in the media, the long running TV shows that usually have one or more gay characters and at workplaces.

Although it might be against many people's religious beliefs however the Australian life provides this freedom to those who chose it and in general it is not acceptable to make fun or attack others because of their sexual orientation.
