History of Australian music

The earliest music of Australia was the folk music of the Aboriginals, their most famous musical instrument is the didgeridoo, today you can still find it sold in souvenir shops and in some areas you can see aboriginals playing it.

When the colonization started, the new comers brought their own English and Irish music with them and for almost a century or more there wasn't really anything called "Australian Music"

By the turn of the 20th century Australia had become a nation, and a national anthem was selected for it out of several well known songs, the others still live in Australia to this day, for example Waltzing Matilda which was about a gold miner (Large quantities of gold were discovered in Australia and the typical Australian in the 19th century was a miner..)

In the 1950's and 60's the entire music world was shaking, Elvis in America, The Beatles in the UK, and when the latters visited Australia they inspired the whole nation to "do something"

Thus came some of the most famous Ausstralian bands like "The Bee Gees", "Men at work" and "The Bushwackers" that made songs that topped the charts in the US and the UK at the time.

Famous Australian musicians today

Today there's many well known Australian singers, you might not know all of them but for example there's Keith Urban, Delta Goodrem, Kylie Minougue.

I won't be able to cover everything in such a broad topic in 1 single article so if you have any questions please ask through the forum.
