What are salaries like in Australia?

One of the main reasons why you must be considering immigrating is probably how much money you can make and how much of that you can save, Australian salaries are not the highest in the world but the national GDP is higher than the UK, France & Germany, The country was ranked third in the United Nations' 2006 Human Development Index and sixth in The Economist worldwide quality-of-life index 2005. I can assure you  they would be more than enough for you to have a decent life, in general food and clothes and bills and transport etc don't take up much of your salary, perhaps 20% - 30% (depending on how you choose to live of course) while renting can take up to another 30% alone (and if you choose to buy your own house it can be over 60% of your net salary).

The unemployment rate in Australia now is less than 4% and the country really will need more and more workers as the economy grows.
